Merzana Kostreci is an accomplished pianist who has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Europe and the US. Her wide repertoire range, versatility, and ability are on display in her commanding delivery of works from all the classics.
After her formative years in her native Albania, Merzana was selected to attend the University of Music, Cologne, Germany, at just sixteen years old, when the professors recognized her unusual range and talent. She earned a diploma in piano performance from that University in 2003.
In Germany, she participated in numerous master classes, as well as a semester studying at the National Superior Conservatory of Music & Dance of Paris, France. She graduated with a BA in piano performance from University of Maryland in 2017, and is currently pursuing her MM in piano performance at UMD. She has participated in several national and international competitions in Europe and the U.S.A.
Merzana has been teaching since 2003. She believes that every student has unique qualities. She enjoys teaching young kids. Not only is she attuned to their needs and temperament, but she employs her knowledge of child psychology and pedagogy to tailor the instruction methods accordingly. Among her experiences with young kids are also accompaniments of young instrumentalists and singers. Merzana also has wide experience teaching teens and adults.
In her free time, Merzana enjoys walks in nature around the D.C. area, reading in different languages (she is fluent in five languages), visiting museums and attending concerts and arts events, volunteering, as well as friends’ and family gatherings.
